R&D Architect (H/F)

The Mission

You are the architect of the Merlain engine, our proprietary technology. Alongside Aymen, you define and evolve the architecture of the agents, the monitoring and the connectors; you make one product deployable as SaaS, VPC and on-premise; and you harden our European infrastructure and security. Your goal: bring Merlain up to the standards of large accounts, benchmarks and audits included.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve the architecture of the Merlain engine: investigation agents, orchestration, business memory, governed metric definitions.
• Architect the continuous monitoring: anomaly detection on business series, multi-source cross-checking, alert prioritization, noise reduction.
• Define the connector architecture (Shopify, ERP, CRM, ads, finance): read-only access, reliability, quota and error handling, scalability.
• Make the product deployable across three modes (SaaS, VPC, on-premise) from a single codebase: packaging, configuration, updates, observability.
• Harden the European infrastructure and security: tenant data isolation, encryption, secrets and access management, anonymization before AI processing, logging and full traceability.
• Prepare Merlain for enterprise requirements: security questionnaires, penetration tests, certification and audit programs (e.g. SOC 2), GDPR compliance.
• Build reproducible benchmarks: investigation quality, alert precision, latency, compute costs, load behavior.
• Set technical standards: architecture reviews, code quality, tests, CI/CD, documentation.
• Support pre-sales and large-account deployments on technical and security topics.
• Contribute to recruiting and growing the R&D team.

Profile

• 5+ years in software engineering, with a significant share in architecture or tech-lead roles.
• Solid experience with distributed systems and data platforms in production.
• Hands-on experience with generative-AI or agent-based systems in production: orchestration, evaluation, cost and reliability control.
• Strong command of cloud, containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with products deployed on client infrastructure (VPC, on-premise) or multi-tenant with strong isolation.
• A strong security culture: authentication, access management, encryption, secrets, attack surface.
• Able to strike the balance between startup speed and enterprise robustness, and to explain your choices.
• Fluent French or English.

Nice to Have

• Experience with a certification program (e.g. SOC 2) or security audits driven by large accounts.
• Knowledge of retail and e-commerce data (Shopify, ERP, ad platforms).
• Experience in anomaly detection, time series or data engineering (modeling, pipelines, semantic layer).
• Experience with sovereign hosting or European infrastructure.
• Open-source contributions or technical publications.
